Contest & Sweepstakes Rules
v0.1 · draft · effective date set at launch

The rules for every board, cup and draw.

These are the official rules for the competition surfaces on this site: the free ladder competitions and sponsored cups, the point-staked 1v1 duels, reward cases, and any giveaway we run. They sit alongside the Terms of Service and the Rulebook, which they incorporate by reference. Where a clause applies to only one type of promotion it says so — skill contest (ladders, cups, duels) or sweepstakes (chance-based giveaways).

No purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win any sweepstakes. A purchase or payment will not improve your chances of winning a sweepstakes. Void where prohibited.

2. Eligibility

Each promotion is open only to natural persons who, as of entry:

  • are at least 18 years old — or the age of majority in their jurisdiction if greater — and able to form a binding contract;
  • are legal residents of, and physically located in, an eligible U.S. jurisdiction (see Section 3);
  • hold a registered account under their own legal identity, in good standing, consistent with the Terms of Service household/account cap; and
  • are not on any applicable sanctions list and not resident in a restricted jurisdiction under the AML / KYC Policy.

Excluded: employees, contractors, officers, and members of the Sponsor and its affiliates; sponsored creators running a cup and their immediate household and agents (for the cup they host); and anyone otherwise able to influence scoring or winner selection. For a sweepstakes, the immediate family and same-household members of excluded persons are also excluded.

3. Where these run — void where prohibited

Each promotion is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The specific excluded and registration states are being confirmed by counsel before any promotion opens and are not yet final legal conclusions:

  • Skill contests (ladders, cups, duels — entry gated by a paid account) may suppress states that restrict paid-entry prize contests. The final list is [EXCLUDED STATES — SKILL — TBD].
  • Sweepstakes (giveaways) are built to one national standard, with registration and bonding where a state requires it above a prize-value threshold. The final list is [REGISTRATION / EXCLUDED STATES — SWEEPSTAKES — TBD].

The firm may geo-restrict entry from any excluded jurisdiction and may disqualify an entrant who misrepresents location or uses a VPN or other geo-evasion tool to enter, consistent with the prohibited conduct in Terms §8.

4. Prize, chance & consideration

Every U.S. jurisdiction treats a promotion as an illegal lottery only when it combines all three of prize, chance, and consideration; removing any one makes it lawful. Remove chance and it is a skill contest; remove consideration and it is a sweepstakes. Each mechanic on this site is positioned accordingly:

  • Ladders & cups — skill contest. Entry is gated by a paid account, and winning is determined by a published multi-session scoring formula (profit weighted by consistency, best day capped), not by a draw. Prizes are firm products — funded accounts, reset vouchers, cases — not cash.
  • 1v1 duels — skill contest. A head-to-head backed with vault points and settled by the week’s simulated score. Vault points are house-issued loyalty points that never convert to cash; the fixed entry cost on each match is a points sink retired from circulation, not a payout to the house. These remain subject to counsel’s review of the entry-cost mechanic before public launch.
  • Reward cases — chance. A weighted random draw, lawful only when the case is awarded free — earned or given as a prize with no separate payment to open — so consideration is absent. Cases are never sold as paid boxes.
  • Giveaways — sweepstakes. Prize plus chance by design, with consideration removed by the free alternative means of entry in Section 5. No entry is ever weighted by spend or affiliate commission.

Season pass. The optional $19 season pass grants vault points on wins, early bracket entry, a season badge, and a pass-only case. It is a status and economy benefit — not cosmetic-only — and it never changes the rulebook or the scoring formula that decides where anyone ranks. Whether the pass counts as consideration for a given promotion is being confirmed by counsel; where it would, that promotion is offered on a free alternative-entry basis under Section 5.

5. No purchase necessary (alternative means of entry)

For any promotion that combines a prize, chance, and a paid or spend-linked entry path — giveaways, any spend-weighted draw, any paid case — a free alternative means of entry is offered and given equal dignity with the paid path:

  1. No purchase or payment necessary. A purchase, subscription, season pass, account fee, or points spend is not required to enter or win, and does not improve odds.
  2. Free online path. For a digital-first promotion, a free online entry form (name, email, and jurisdiction) is reachable from the same page as the paid path, in comparable prominence.
  3. Optional mail-in path.A free 3"×5" hand-printed mail entry to [MAIL AMOE ADDRESS — TBD] is accepted, one entry per outer envelope, postmarked within and received by the promotion window.
  4. Equal odds. A free entry has the same number of chances and the same prize eligibility as any paid entry. Odds are never weighted by amount paid, plan, size, or affiliate commission. If a promotion is meant to weight entries, it is run as a skill contest, not a chance draw.
  5. Entry limits apply equally to both paths and are stated in the Promotion Addendum.

6. Prizes & approximate retail value

Each Promotion Addendum lists, for every prize, its description, quantity, and Approximate Retail Value (ARV) in U.S. dollars.

Prizes are, by default, firm products — funded (simulated) accounts, evaluation or reset vouchers, reward cases, and add-on credit — not cash. The ARV of a funded-account prize is its published standalone list price, not the notional simulated balance, which has no monetary value (see Risk Disclosure §2).

A prize is non-transferable and non-cashable; there is no cash equivalent or substitution except at the Sponsor’s discretion for a prize of equal or greater value if the stated prize becomes unavailable. Sponsored-cup prize pools are funded by the sponsor and are product prizes; the Promotion Addendum names the sponsor and the pool’s ARV.

7. Odds

Skill contests. Winners are determined by relative simulated-trading performance under the published scoring formula. The number of eligible entrants affects your standing, but winning is based on performance, not a random draw — there is no “odds of winning.”

Sweepstakes. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received across all entry methods. Where a prize carries a fixed per-entry probability — for example, the outcomes of a reward case — the weighted probability of each outcome is published with that promotion.

8. Winner selection, verification & notification

Skill contests. Winners are the top-ranked eligible entrants under the published scoring formula at the close of the promotion; ties are broken by [TIEBREAK RULE — TBD]. Scores reflect simulated trading and are subject to the same rulebook and prohibited-conduct review as any account; entries tied to a rule breach are disqualified.

Sweepstakes. Winners are selected in a random drawing from all eligible entries — all methods combined — on [DRAW DATE — TBD], conducted by the Sponsor or an independent administrator.

Verification. All prizes are contingent on eligibility verification and, at or above the applicable IRS reporting threshold or where otherwise required, completion of identity verification and tax forms under the AML / KYC Policy and Terms §9. A potential winner who fails verification, is ineligible, or breached the rules forfeits the prize, which may be awarded to the next eligible entrant.

Notification. Winners are notified at their registered email within [N — TBD] days of determination and must respond within [N — TBD] days; non-response forfeits. A winners list is available on request at support@prop.localrootsstudio.com.

9. Publicity

Except where prohibited by law, accepting a prize is the winner’s consent for the Sponsor — and, for a cup, the named sponsor — to use the winner’s screen name or alias, city and state, and any voluntarily provided likeness or statement in connection with the promotion and its results, in any medium, without additional compensation. Consistent with the Privacy Policy, leaderboards and winner announcements display a screen name by default, never a legal name without separate consent.

10. Taxes

Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes on prizes. Where the aggregate value of prizes to a winner in a calendar year meets or exceeds the applicable IRS reporting threshold, the Sponsor will issue the required tax form and may withhold, or require a completed W-9 or W-8 form before delivering the prize. This mirrors the independent-contractor tax framing in Terms §9 and Risk §6.

11. General conditions, disqualification & disputes

The Sponsor may disqualify any entrant who tampers with a promotion, violates these rules or the Terms and Rulebook, or acts in bad faith, and may suspend, modify, or cancel a promotion if fraud, technical failure, or a cause beyond its control corrupts its administration — awarding prizes among eligible entries received before the impairment.

Limitation of liability, disclaimers, indemnification, arbitration, the class-action waiver, and the opt-out for promotions are governed by and incorporated from Terms §§12–15, except as a provision here or in a Promotion Addendum expressly states otherwise.

Governing law. These rules are governed by the laws of [STATE — TBD at entity formation], excluding conflict-of-laws rules, consistent with Terms §15 — the same blank the Terms carries. If any provision is unlawful in a jurisdiction, it is severed there and the remainder stands; a mechanic unlawful in a state is simply not offered there.

12. Not investment advice; simulated results

Nothing in any promotion is investment, legal, or tax advice or a solicitation. All competition and duel scores reflect simulated trading; simulated balances have no monetary value; and prizes are firm products paid from company revenue as a business expense, not from trading proceeds. See the Risk Disclosure and Terms §2 for the full statement.

13. Per-promotion addendum

Each promotion appends a short addendum stating its name; type (skill contest or sweepstakes); Sponsor or co-Sponsor; entry window; entry method or methods, including the free alternative means of entry where required; eligible and excluded jurisdictions for that promotion; the prize table with ARV; the winner-selection method and date; and any per-promotion tiebreak or odds. The master rules on this page control; the addendum supplies the specifics.
